Live Spot Price, Real Silver Content
Bullion is the simplest silver to price because it is made to a known weight and purity. The number that moves is the spot price, so we quote from the market at the moment you are standing at the counter, not from yesterday's close.
- Identify the product. Government coin, name brand bar, generic round, or constitutional silver.
- Verify it. Weight, dimensions, and a purity check, since counterfeit bars and rounds do exist.
- Count or weigh. Coins are counted, bars and loose silver are weighed on a calibrated scale.
- Price from spot. Pure silver content times the live price, then adjusted for product type and condition.
Silver Content by Product
Purity and pure silver content for the bullion we see most often. Modern government coins list their specs on the mint's own pages, such as the US Mint's American Eagle silver bullion program.
| Product | Purity | Pure silver |
|---|---|---|
| American Silver Eagle | .999 | 1 troy oz |
| Canadian Maple Leaf | .9999 | 1 troy oz |
| Britannia, Philharmonic, Libertad | .999 | 1 troy oz |
| Generic round or 10 oz bar | .999 | 1 or 10 troy oz |
| Kilo bar | .999 | About 32.15 troy oz |
| Pre-1965 dimes, quarters, halves | 90% | About 0.715 troy oz per $1 face |
| 1965 to 1970 Kennedy half | 40% | About 0.148 troy oz each |
| 1942 to 1945 war nickel | 35% | About 0.056 troy oz each |
Quick melt math: a 10 oz .999 bar holds 10 troy ounces of silver, so at an example spot price of $62 its melt value is about $620. A roll of pre-1965 quarters ($10 face) holds about 7.15 troy ounces, or about $443 at the same price. Our offer is based on the live spot price when you visit.
Why Some Silver Pays Better Than Others
Two stacks with the same ounces can get different offers. Government coins and bars from known refiners, still in tubes, capsules, or with assay cards, resell quickly, so they price closest to spot. Generic, damaged, or unmarked pieces take more work to verify.
Some items are worth more than their silver. Better date Morgan dollars, graded coins in PCGS or NGC holders, and low mintage proofs can carry a collector premium, so we check for those before we ever quote melt. If you are selling gold too, see our gold bars and bullion page.

Bullion is priced from the silver spot price at the moment we quote. We confirm the product and purity, weigh or count it, multiply the pure silver content by spot, and base the offer on that figure. Recognized government coins and name brand bars are the easiest to price, so they usually get the strongest offers.
Yes. Dimes, quarters, and half dollars dated 1964 or earlier are 90% silver, and $1 in face value of those coins holds about 0.715 troy ounces of pure silver. We also buy 1965 to 1970 Kennedy halves (40% silver) and 1942 to 1945 war nickels (35% silver). Bring them in rolls or loose.
Yes. A pawn loan lets you keep ownership of your coins or bars and pick them up when you repay. No credit check is needed. Our loan program has a minimum repayment period of 61 days, a maximum of 12 months, and a maximum APR of 35%, and the loan amount depends on the value of the silver you pledge.
No, but it helps. Mint tubes, monster boxes, capsules, and assay cards make products faster to verify and easier to resell. Loose coins and bars without paperwork are still welcome; we simply test them before quoting.
Never. Cleaning leaves hairline scratches that can wipe out any collector premium, especially on older or graded coins. Toning does not lower the silver content, so bring your coins exactly as they are.
Yes. Under Texas House Bill 1056, gold and silver bullion stamped with its weight and purity became legal tender in Texas on September 1, 2026, though no business is required to accept it. Selling to a licensed buyer is still the fastest way to turn bullion into dollars. For more pointers, read Buying or Selling Silver: 10 Tips That Get You the Best Price.
